Remaining Corsages: 20, 47
Over the past few years, unclear on how I would use them, I had the instinct to save all of my fabric scraps. Small fragments of cloth (or “debris” as I like to lovingly call them) were tucked away in bins, too small to make garments from, but too treasured to be thrown out. The scraps came in many forms: as gifts from friends, from fabric headers, found hidden under my worktable, and of course they emerged from the production of clothing. Slowly, the bits accumulated into something I felt ready to take on.
After a long winter, as a way to renew myself and reconnect with my sewing practice, I geared up and undertook a period of time devoted to research, reflection, and experimentation. Much of my process considers my relationship to material production, questioning how waste can be minimized, recycled or aestheticized. In an attempt to create something unexpected, I have translated these ideas into a new collection of unique corsages that layer colourful fabric scraps and reassemble them into energetic visual moments.
This isn’t your typical corsage so don’t limit it to your lapel. Pin it to the cuff of your jeans, the side of your back pocket, the hemline of a shirt or sweater, at your wrist, or on a tote bag. Or whatever, don’t wear it at all! Put it on a stack of books, pin it to your lamp, create a special arrangement on your nightstand, or hang it from a chandelier. To present some ideas to you, and as a digital antidote, I bought a vintage polaroid camera and invited my friend James Lai to come over and photograph them. We played around and took 50 polaroids, one to accompany each unique corsage.
As we transition into spring, feeling the sense of optimism that comes with it, I am offering the limited-edition corsages as a gift with purchase. Treat yourself or friend, embellish the spring coat you’ve been pining to wear, or celebrate your mom (or someone who acts like your mom!)
To redeem the offer, buy any pair of earrings or item of clothing valued at $60 more, then add the corsage of your choice to your cart. You must add a corsage, numbered 1-50 to your cart, using the drop down tool. The corsage will be automatically applied as free, and you will also receive a special polaroid image, which corresponds to the unique corsage of your choice. There are 50 corsages available, and the promotion continues as long as quantities last. Corsages are also available for purchase. If you would like to buy one, you are welcome to do so for $115.00. You will still get the accompanying polaroid ;)
I invite my customers to share in my creative revival! I hope they uplift you.
